Scaling of Absolute Sized Graphics in Word

I added part of this to another thread but, would really appreciate someone following up with a suggestion

I really think this is a bug... Word should not be scaling graphics when you have included a graphic at 100% of the real pixel size. Can someone please dump the source code of these two pages and let me know if I have missed something

The first page was created in FP 2002 - http://www.acalanes.k12.ca.us/adulted/new/imagetest.ht
Looking at the code you can see the image is 94x95 pix

The second page was created in Word2002 - http://www.acalanes.k12.ca.us/adulted/new/imagetestword.ht
Looking at the code you can see the image is 94x95 pix. However, it appears bigger as Word has scaled it approx 25%

The graphic is same and absolute sized 94x95 created at 72psi

As webmaster, I support the upper level pages of our sites using FP and pure HTML tweaking... however, the rest of the the district staff support the underlying subpages in Word. All Word HTML pages scale our graphics 25% so if I change the setting in Word to 75% these graphics in FP or Word pages look the same in IE browsers. However, in other Browsers the 25% difference shows.

This is a real problem that I don't remember ever experiencing with previous versions of Word. I regularly load updates and did not find a Knowledge Base article specifially about this...only found the article that talked about Word no longer automatically converting height and width tags.... Did I overlook a new setting in Word or have I missed something else
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi PPT,

Pixels do not have a set size. How Word (2000-2003) interprets 'size' can depend on the capability of a particular graphic format
to retain a Pixel Per Inch (PPI) value within the graphics and yes it can get confusing/frustrating for Word to handle graphics :)

In this case, your graphics are GIF files. GIFs do not retain information on the Pixel per inch (PPI) sizing within that file
format.

A JPG graphic can retain the information within the file when the PPI is 'planted'

When a graphic has a planted PPI then Word 2002/2003 will use that information, when there isn't any planted information Word uses
the information in the Picture tab of Tools=>Options=>General=>[Web Options]

With your sample graphic, at 96PPI in Word the graphic you insert would be the size shown in your 1st example, and the size shown in
your 2nd example when you use 72 PPI. For a GIF, 96PPI is a default 'sizing'. (The difference between 72PPI and 96PPI is
approximately 25% in sizing that you mentioned).

The addition of VML information (by Word) in the source code for the graphics can cause additional issues with different browsers.
