Scheduling using recurring tasks

Using Project 200 I am trying to show the effect of a short, daily, task on
project schedules but leveling is not working as expected.

I want to schedule a 2 hour admin task to a resource for each day of the
project. I want this resources other tasks to be scheduled into the
remaining hours in of the day. In practice, this task my not be necessary
some days and other days it may take more than 2 hours. Initially, I want to
see what effect this task has on project deadlines but once the project is
underway I want to be able to track the impact of these variations.

I have tried setting up a recurring task but MS Project will not schedule
tasks into the remaining hours, they are just pushed out to the end date for
the recurring task. I have tried scheduling the entire project in hours and
I have checked the 'Leveling can make splits in remain tasks' option in
Resource leveling. I have also tried reducing the recuring task priority
level but with no success.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

A simple way to show this impact is to reduce the resource's assignment
units on all tasks by the unit equivalent of 2 hours per day.

Many thanks, Gary. I have adopted the approach you suggest. I have created
a totally separate support/admin project to track these particular hours.
Because they are all related to the same project it would have been nice to
have kept them in the same project file but I don't lose anything doing it
this way so I am happy.

Thanks again,
Frank

I don't see why you can't keep the task(s) in the original plan.
