Scrolling synchronization

Occasionally, when scrolling the lefthand side of the Gantt window, it moves
independently from the RH side. As a result, the task descriptions & other
data don't align w/ the Gantt bars. The only fix I've found is to close MPP
& restart. Any way to prevent this from happening?

Hi Rick,

What version of project are you using?

Does using the Go To Selected Task button restore order? You may also
try CTRL+Home and the ALT+Home to reorient the left and right sides.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I'm using Project 2007 w/ all recent updates on an IBM T60p. The problem
manifests itself most often when using the mouse controls on the computer
instead of an external mouse.

If I page up or down the data will realign but not resynchronize the
scrolling. The only way to reestablish the synchronization is to restart
Project.

Hi Rick,

I am running Project 2007 here and have not personally experienced what
you report. A quick check of the connect site
(http://connect.microsoft.com/feedback/default.aspx?SiteID=235) didn't
return any similar problems. You may try logging the issue there to see
if other users have workarounds or other feedback.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, MS doesn't seem to have a way to
join the discussion to make suggestions. I was referred to different sites
until I ended up back where I started. Looks like they have closed this
avenue for reporting problems.

I have a full log of MS project program failures. From 7/30 to 10/1 MS
Project has crashed 7 times--several after the scrolling synchronization has
stopped working.

Perhaps you can get this information to the project team since I can't.

Hi Rick,

Hmmm. I just went to the connect site and after logging in with my Live ID
was able to add a suggestion. Do you have a Windows Live ID?

Yes I have an ID. It appears that this suggestion forum is closed to new
members.

Yesterday, MSP crashed 2 times during a client presentation. This is
becoming a regular occurence. Loss of scrolling synchronization was a
precurser to the crash.

Any suggestions? Is there a utility to check for conflicts between MSP &
Windows & the computer hardware?

I went back to the MS Project web site--
https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=235 & clicked the
Feedback link. The message I get on the feedback page is, "You need
permission to submit feedback in this area. To apply for permission, browse
through your choices on the Available Connections page." When you follow the
links there is no option to apply for permission. Apparently they have
closed this connection.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Rick,

I'm sorry I can't offer any more suggestions. If you want to post the
specific details (what hardware, OS, etc) I'll see if I can log the
issue with Microsoft through the Connect site.

As a side question -- you note MSP crash during a presentation-- were
you by chance using an overhead projection system? There have been
several reports of odd screen issues when using MSP and an overhead
projection system. I ran into the problem yesterday, also at a client
site, with MS Project 2003. It took 3 restarts to get the system set so
it was stable.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Yes I was using a projector. I do recall that I had trouble strarting the
system & had to do a hard reboot. I set the screen resolution on both the
monitor & the projector @ 1280x800.

The typical error messages I've recorded in my event log since I installed
MSP 2007 are:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Office 12 Sessions

Thanks Rick,

Can you give more information -- what operating system? What were you
doing (if you recall) when the system crashed and logged the error
messages?

As I noted, when I was using Project 2003 with my laptop and an
overhead, it took 3 complete shut-down and power-up cycles to resolve
lingering issues. Were the crashes you note also involving overhead
projectors?

I am trying to gather as much info as possible before attempting to log
the issue on the connect site.

Windows XP for an IBM T60p w/ 1.5GB of internal memory & Intel Core Duo
processor.

The crashes that happend on Thursday were while while using an overhead
projector although they have occurred when I'm not projecting also. They
seemed to be tied to the loss of synchronization w/ the LH & RH sides of the
Gantt view. The tabular columns will move independently from the bars. The
loss of synchronization doesn't cure itself w/ a <pageup> or <pagedn> unless
I manually realign the text w/ the bars. The only way to keep them aligned
after that is to use the elevator thumb on the vertical scroll bar. This
problem only manifests itself when I'm using either of the on-board mice--eg.
the touchpad or the trachpoint. It doesn't happen w/ an external mouse.

So far as I can determine, the size of the file is not a factor although it
occurs on a 7MB master program schedule file most often. It has external
links to 12 individual project files as inserted projects. I have also
recently added internal "hammock" links to activities on the individual
project files.

It seems to me that most of the problems I'm having are memory related--eg
there isn't enough memory for printing or it doesn't update the video memory
correctly. So, I don't know if this is a hardware or software issue. My
suspicion is that the database becomes corrupt--in fact after updating one of
the project files it created a phantom logic connection that couldn't be
deleted. I had to copy the data to a new file & delete the old file.

I've run all the hardware diagnostics w/ no problems noted.

That is the sum & substance of the issue(s).
