Searching on a tab control

I have a form that is based on 1 table and on it is a tab control with 7
pages each based on a other tables. I have tried using the filter by form
facility on the tab control pages but it wont find any records. I have used
data that I know exists but nothing comes up. Why is this and is there a way
around this?
