"Seasonal" constraints

G'day all,

Does Project 2003 have a way of specifying that a task can only be done at
certain times of year? E.g.

Task: Install ski lift
Can't be started before task XXX is completed
Duration: 50 days
Constraint: Site is only accessible between 1 June and 20 October, so if
work can't
start by 1 August in year N it has to be put off until 1 June in year
N+1

If not, suggestions for a work-round will be welcome.

My first thought would be to create a specific calendar for this effort and
assign it to the tasks that fall into this category.

<Tools> <Change Working Time> <New>
then create a new calendar that has the non-working time specified

to assign the calendar to a task
<double click on task> <task info> <advanced> <calendar>

The only problem is that MS Project will still split the task. This means
you could have work start in year n and finish in year n+1.

Maybe someone else knows how to get around that....
Good luck.

You should use a task calendar. This is what they are for and they take
precadence over a resource calendar and the project calender.

Thank you, Rob. Just what was needed!
