Section headings in header

Hi there,

I am currently writing my thesis and was interested to know how to insert
section headings in my headers, so that it automatically inserts the correct
heading for that page. Examples of what I mean are below. Any help would be
appreciated. Many thanks!

Deb

Example of what 2 pages may look like:

Page 1

4.1 Introduction (header)

4.1 Introduction

4.2 Background

Page 2:

4.3 Literature review (header)

4.3 Literature review

4.4 Blah

Many thanks Greg!

Just one other thing..I inserted the styleref field and chose the
appropriate style name (in this case heading 2). It inserted the name of the
section (eg Introduction), but not the number (eg 4.1). How do I make it do
both?

Cheers,
Debbie

Use the \n switch. There are other switches that might be useful also --
check Help.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestion. I searched help for info about the \n switch and
couldn't find any. How does the \n switch work and how would I incorporate
it into styleref field?

Cheers,
Debbie

Display help for the StyleRef field. Click the 'Switches' subheading --

{ STYLEREF StyleIdentifier [Switches ] }

\n
Causes the field to display the entire paragraph number for a referenced
paragraph without trailing periods. No information about prior levels is
displayed unless it is included as part of the current level.

Found it and it works. Thanks for spelling it out for me, I appreciated it!
