See original estimate after more than one resource added

I estimate a task at 30 days. Afted adding resources to it the count goes
down, as expected, but how then to see what the original effort estimation
was?

Thanks.

McGeeky,
Display the Tracking Gantt, then save a baseline :
Tools / Tracking / Set Baseline... / OK
The grey bars show the baseline.
Now, add some resource and look at the duration...

Hope this helps,

Hi Gerard,

Is there a way to do it without creating baselines? I thought it would be as
simple as adding another column to the main Gantt view which says "total
days effort". Ie. 3 resources at 10 days = 10 days duration but 30 days
effort. Its the 30 days effort that I want to see.

Thanks,

Aha! Thats the one I was after. Thanks! And now my next question is can I
view it in days? But I think not as I am sure I have read that question &
answer before.

Hi McGeeky ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

There isn't a recognized method to record original Durations, but if you
want to enter all the tasks first and then save a Baseline before you add
resources, then you have such information. However, Baselines are designed
to be used when you have finished planning you project whence you save the
Baseline for later comparisons. You could use a custom filed to record the
originals.

Hi Mike,

I worded my question wrong so it sounded misleading - Jan answered it; all I
needed was the Work column!

Thanks anyway.

You can. Just go to Tools - Options - Schedule tab and set work to be
entered in days.

HTH.
