Selecting text vertically

A long, long time ago, word allowed a keyboard combination that enabled you
to select a vertical line of text. For example:

Step 1. This is a step.
Step 2. This is another step.
Step 3. This is another step again.

You could do this key combination and select the word 'Step' numbers,
periods, and spaces vertically -- for all of the occurrences.

Does anyone remember what this key combination is?

Thanks.

The command is ColumnSelect. Sorry I can't tell you what the default
is offhand, I re-assigned mine (the default might be Ctrl-Shift-F8).

Tools > Customize > Commands > Keyboard > All Commands > ColumnSelect
and see what it says.
