Send goes grey mail not sent but goes to sent items??

Hi
I have a site that VPN's into my network via ISDN. Users are happing
problems with sending mails. When they press send to send a mail the
SEND button goes grey and mail is moved to SENT ITEMS but no mail is
actually sent.??

Does anyone have any ideas??
