send/receive error message

I have tried resolving this over and over again with both
my comcast provider and microsoft. When I logon, it
automatically puts an error up that says "There was a
problem logging onto your mail server. You need to enter
a password" Error number 0x800ccc92. I have put the
password in numerous times under the account and when the
screen pops up asking for it and have checked remember. I
can hit the send/recieve and it asks for the passwords
again. I put them in and can send and recieve, but the
error comes right back up. Anyone have any suggestions

Turn on logging in your e-mail client to see what is happening. Check
if a connection is actually made, followed by sending the username and
password. Outlook's output is really crappy because they show all the
function calls and parameters. You only need to keep the lines with
POP3 and SMTP in them. If you have multiple accounts, disable scheduled
mail polls and test by manually polling just one account (so you don't
have a dozen all mixed together in the logfile).

Also, see if Microsoft's registry hack to reset the security on the
passwords will work:
- Go to http://support.microsoft.com/.
- Advanced search.
- Search on "remember password" (all words) for "Outlook 2000".
- Voila! Read the article about password not saved when using a POP3
server.
