Sendinhg attachment via windows mail

I have windows mail ( part of Vista Home premium) I am running Office Home
and Student. I am trying to send an Office 2007 document as an e-mail
attachment but the option is greyed out in the send to drop down menu. Using
XP I could send docs without saving and then forwarding the saved file. All
I need to know is:
1. How can i send the files using the current applications?
and
2. if it is not possible ( thank you MS) then IF I install Outlook will
this solve my problem?

Using the send from Office function requires a MAPI client which Windows
Mail is not. You can install a standalone version of Outlook but the usual
integration with Office will not be there.

Milly
Thank you for you quick reply. It is more than a little baffling that
Windows mail does not integrate with Windows Office but... it is beyond
belief that Outlook 2007 ( stand alone) will not integrate with Office Home
and Student.

I feel that MS shpould warn and or advise buyers of this lack of
compatibilty. I now feel that the Home Student version is a load of crap
that I never should have purchased.

Anyway thanks again

cheers

Outlook will work with Office to send mail, but some of the advanced options
like using Themes in Outlook are disabled with the standalone product.

How long have you had the Home and Student Office suite? You may be able to
get a refund (if it is within 30 days of purchase) from Microsoft.

The free Mozilla Thunderbird will do what you want - and with the Calendar
extension is rapidly becoming the equivalent of Outlook...

I bought it in early December but the store Circuit City announced they were
closing almost imediately after. So I do not have a store to return it to.
Are you suggesting that MS would refund at other stores as part of a trade in
/ trade up?

cheers trevor

Don't bother - download and install Mozilla Thunderbird. Set it as default
email client and you will be able to email attachments from within Office
Home and Student...

Then you're obviously (IMHO) blinded by MS......
The ONLY thing that I can think of that the current version of TBird plus
the current Lightning extension does NOT have that Outlook does, is a
Journal. And for many people, they just don't use that. Categories you can
add, but they are not as sophisticated as Outlook.
However, Lightning will email an event or task reminder, something that
(AFAIK) Outlook has never had. Quite a useful function . Lightning will also
use a calendar on a network or internet server - and when I say "use, I mean
adding events and tasks. Other instances of Lightning can subscribe to this
calendar and ALSO edit it. So Lightning has a truly shared calendar. How
many posts are there in outlook.calendaring asking "how do I share a
calendar without Exchange"? Outlook will publish to an internet server, but
no-one else can edit it!

Oh, and group calendars/schedules, assigned tasks, etc. WITHOUT a third
party program not allowed by corporate IT.

Outlook has always had the ability to send tasks and task reminders.

TBird is catching up, but is in no way an acceptable replacement for Outlook
as you posited in your original post.

Try again, and try not to be blinded by the "let's get away from MSFT, no
matter how much is lacking" crowd.
