Sent Items folder empty

The sent items folder in Outlook 2000 remains empty when
I send a message in spite of the fact that the Save
copies of messages in the Sent Items folder is selected.
Any ideas?

The same had happened to my 'Sent Items' folder, I thought the folder was not saving the items. I came to find out that my toolbar was off and it was filtered on 'unread messages'. I m not sure that's what happened in your case.
Here's what you can try to see if your situation is like mine;
- right click the icon portion (toolbars) of the microsoft outlook
- make sure the 'advance' has check mark next to it , this will show the filtering options.
- select 'messages', your messages under 'sent items' should appear.
