Serial number etc.

Is there some way I can tell if a MS Word document on another's computer
is simply a copy of one that I created on my computer. I am using MS
Word from Office XP.

You can open it up, click "File", "Properties" then click the "General",
"Summary", and "Statistics" TABS to get some of the info you are wanting.

Somebody check on me here, but I think you can do this with more precision
by using Tools|Compare and Merge|Legal Blackline. This should create a new
document showing any differences between the two you wish to compare. TomS

Thanks for the Compare suggestion, which did work. However, I need to
verify if the second document is a duplicate of the first, not simply
that someone just opened a new document and retyped everything. I
remember in earlier versions of Word there were some hidden features
that attached a serial number or some other trace information to each
document created. I need to be able to see if the same
trace/serial/identifier information is on the original as well as the
second.

Ah. Now I get the serial number caption. That I don't know anything about.
sorry T
