Set work effort (in hours) and duration w/o automated adjustments

Is there a way to create a task and specify the work effort (in hours), then
duration, without it adjusting the work effort (i.e. increasing the hours) in
the Gantt view. Is there a default setting somewhere that sets this? (i.e.
I'm assuming I shoudl be able to create a task (from left to right in the
Gantt view, specifiying the work effort, then duration, then resources, and
project will take all the values I input and calculate the % for each
resource vs. adjusting the hours (work effort) to assume that 3 days = 24
hours.)

Take a look at Mike Glen's tutorial on Task Types (#11) at
http://tinyurl.com/2xbhc

It describes the Task Type and Effort Driven attributes which are
fundamental to using MS Project. Basically, you have to keep the "Work =
Duration * Units" formula in the forefront of your mind at all times. You
cannot force the equation to be unbalanced by dictating the total work
effort, the duration, and the resource units.

Hi,

I was with you till you knocked me over in the last phrase or so.
If from your explanation I leave out

vs. adjusting the hours (work effort) to assume that 3 days = 24

then yhe answer is yes. If youenwork and duration before any resoruce is
assigned, change the task type to fixed duration, then through the assign
resources window assign the resource withoiut specifying the assignment%,
the latter will be calculated.
