Setting constraints for an entire project before entering tasks

Andrew F.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to set the constraint across an entire project to "As Soon As
Possible" and lock it down so it can't change unless I specifically direct
it to. What I'm aiming to do is keep the constraint type set at "As Soon
As Possible" even if a start or finish date is entered in directly on the
task sheet, which normally changes the constraint type to "Start No Later
Than". Is there a way to do this when initially setting up a project
timeline? Thanks.

Andrew,
Basically no. The two conditions you are asking for are incompatible.
Think about it, if a Start date is entered, how can it be "as soon as
possible"?

The default for Project task constraints is "as soon as possible". When
you build the plan, first enter tasks (i.e. what is going to be done),
then estimated durations (i.e. the estimated time span it will take to
do the task) and then linkages between tasks (i.e. the schedule logic
that makes up the network). After that, resource assignment can be made
along with setting deadline milestones, etc.

Hope this helps.
John
