Setting up an instance of PS for external customers

All,
We would like to collaborate with our external clients with PS however we
don't know the best way to go about doing this. We were looking at setting a
separate instance of project server out in the DMZ. Is this possible. What
other options are out there? Thanks.

Hi RDR,

In theory this is simple, as both MSP and PWA talks to the servers via
HTTP\HTTPS - always just make sure that your environment is properly
secured! And you need to use HTTPS as well.

Hi
You can use of the following approach

1. If your external clients need to have access to the existing project
server setup the add them to you AD and give limited access to only certain
views. You can also give them access using forms authentication in case you
have limitations to add them to your AD

2. However if the external clients need a totally different setup and create
a new PWA and give them access only to that pwa. The steps to configure a
new PWA are as follows:

Log on to the Project Server using an account with administrative
privileges, then select Start > Administrative Tools > SharePoint 3.0 Central
Administration; once on the Central Administration Home page, select the link
in the left Quick Launch menu to visit your Shared Service Provider

On the Home page for your Shared Services Provider click the Project Web
Access Sites link, located below the Project Server heading

On the Manage Project Web Access Sites page, click the Create Project Web
Access Site toolbar button

On the Create Project Web Access Site page, enter the following information,
then click the OK button
SharePoint Web Application to host Project Web Access: SharePoint – 80
Project Web Access path: newpath
Primary database server: databaseservername
Published database name: ProjectServerNewName_Published
Draft database name: ProjectServerNewName_Draft
Archive database name: ProjectServerNewName_Archive
Reporting database name: ProjectServerNewName_Reporting

After entering the new data, the Manage Project Web Access Sites page should
be displayed, and a new PWA URL should be displayed in the list with a Status
of Waiting for Resources

After a couple of minutes, refreshing the page should show the Status change
to Creating Databases, then finally Provisioned and ready to use

Hope this helps
