Hi,

I have to setup the calender for a project. The people work in two day
shifts 12 hours for the first two days of the week ,take a holiday the 3rd,
and again work on two night shifts of 12 hours in 4th and fifth days of the
week. In that way it can be 365 day operation and people will be working all
through the day. Can some one help me on how i can setup calender and working
times for the poeple.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the help. But in my project there is no non working
time. It is as 365 day operation and different sets of people will be wokring
on the project. If I set the non wokring time for the project, then it would
become nonworking, where as I want the resources to have the non working time.

DO you think it will be able to cater for the 365 day working.

Thanks,
Krishna

Hi Kriszhna,

Through Tools, Change Working time, set up a new base calendar (Click New,
Give a name, then proceed as I showed).
Now in the resource sheet, in the column "Base Calendar" replace "Srtandard"
by the name you gave your own calendar.

Hi Jan,

Thanks again. I ahve tried that too but some how it is not getting through

I have set up the working time and calender for the teams working as in the
pattern below.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
Crew A D D C N N C C
Crew B C D D C N N C
Crew C C C D D C N N
Crew D N C C D D C N
Crew E N N C C D D C
Crew F C N N C C D D
Crew G D C N N C C D

D-Day shift, N for Night Shift, C for comp off. Does it mean I need to have
multiple calenders for people. The working times are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM for
day and 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM for night shift.

Thanks,

Krishna

Every resource ultimately has their own calendar. When you enter the
resource name, whatever you designate as his base calendar is copied as a
fresh calender referenced by the resource name. This calendar is what you
use to post exceptions to the base calendar - roatating shifts, holiday time
off, etc for that one resource. In the simplest case, if you had only a
single shift of workers, Mon-Fri 8 to 5, and 99 resources in your project
you'd end up with 100 calendars, the one base calendar and 99 resource
calendars. If all those workers were day shift and most came in at 8am,
you'd probably use the 8-5 base calendar as the master Project calendar. If
some of them came in at 7am, others at 8am, and others at 9am you'd modify
the resource calendars of all those who came in other than at 8am to show
the times they actually worked.
