Settings to check mail don't work

[Pyramid 36]

Using OL2003. I have mail set up to check as follows:

Tools | Mail Setup | Send/Receive | with set up to send/receive All Accounts
every 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, OL only checks mail when I click Send/Receive.
