Thanks for your reply to my question. I am using a HTC 6800. If I add a
note to the phone it will sync with the my PC the next time I put it in the
cradle. Nothing syncs for the PC to the phone though. What do you mean
"placed in ON"?
Thanks,
Scott

I am not understanding this part.

Do you have the notebook "OneNote Mobile" in ON on the PC?
Does it have a section with the name of the mobile device? [1]
Did you put any notes in there for being synched?

Rainald
[1] As you probably know: Synching between a PC and a mobile device
only works with this section

I'm sorry.
I can't see *what* you do not understand :-( :-(

Synching with a mobile device is limited to pages which are placed in ON
on the computer in:
- the notebook "OneNote Mobile",
- in this notebook in the section which has the name of the mobile
device, f.e. "Samsung".

If this is not clear enough, pls ask again.

OK, fine. So the major part (getting the sync at all) is done.
Nothing syncs for the PC to the phone
though. What do you mean "placed in ON"?

This means: Only pages which are held/stored in the section
<device-name> in the "OneNote Mobile" notebook (where the pages from the
phone arrive after synching) will be synched. Pages of other Notebooks
and other section are *not* synched.
Therefore everything that shall be sent/uploaded to the phone has to be
copied/move into this very section.

If not yet done, copies some pages to that section and - addition - make
some changes to the pages deriving from the phone and test again.

BTW: There's a fine PowerToy "Send To OneNote Mobile / Copy to Device"
[1] which can be used for copying pages to the synching section with a
button in the main toolbar.

I feel very much like a dummy here. I guess I need a step by step guide from
the first.
I have a section on my PC "OneNote Mobile".
It does not have a section with the name of the mobile device, or [1]. What
is [1]?
When I have that, how do I put the notes there I want synced?
The last time I tried what I thought would copy some there, I just lost my
notes, and could not get them back.
You see why I feel like a dummy.

Let me backtrack to this point in the discussion and see if I can
clear it up for you, as I had some similar stumbles during my
baby-steps on going into OneNote Mobile the first time....

OneNote Mobile only synchronizes a single folder from a single
notebook: the "Notes from <your device name>" folder within the
"OneNote Mobile" notebook.

Anything you want to send to your mobile device needs to be copied or
moved into this folder.

Anything you write or change on your mobile device will show up in
this folder, which you may then copy or move wherever else you want it
in the OneNote system on your computer.

If you move or delete the page from that folder in that notebook, next
sync it will be removed from the OneNote data on the mobile device.

On an editorial note, it's a bit unfortunate that the designers did it
this way. With Outlook's mail sync to Windows Mobile, you can select
the folders of your Outlook user profile which you wish to sync
between the PC and the mobile, so it would be nice if OneNote
functioned in a similar manner. But so far, OneNote Mobile is still a
quantum leap over the simple "Notes" component of Outlook that was its
predecessor. Word Mobile is nice, but for just jotting down
information it's like swatting a fly with a hammer.

For quickies which I want to keep in Outlook, the Notes application is
fine; for stuff I'm trying to organize in a little bit better fashion,
such as notes on my medical situation which I need to discuss with the
doctor (which is another story altogether) I use OneNote Mobile.

I've also found OneNote Mobile to be handy in sending stuff I just
want to READ over to my PDA. As a ham radio operator and shortwave
listener, I get several "news" bulletins which I just send over to
OneNote from IE or Outlook, then copy the ones I want to read "on the
go" into the mobile folder, and I've got a "handy" (pun intended) copy
I can read whenever and wherever I like.

It was just a footnote which may see after the first paragraph below.

It is really strange that you do not have the said section in the
"OneNote Mobile" notebook.
Do you have *any* section in there?
Or do you have no section at all there?

There should be a section. In a previous posting you said that you were
able to synch notes created on the mobile device over to OneNote on the
PC.
Where did these notes go which you synched them over from the mobile
device?
When I have that, how do I put the notes there I want synced?

You just *copy* (or move) the pages there.
The last time I tried what I thought would copy some there, I just
lost my notes, and could not get them back.

Just mark them in the notebook where the pages are sitting, then use
Copy+Paste:
copy the page(s) to the clipboard with the copy-button in the toolbar or
with "Edit > Copy" from the menu or just Ctrl+C.
Then change to the "OneNote Mobile notebook" open the section used for
synching. Then paste the page(s) there using the "Insert button", "Edit
Insert" from the menu or just Shift+Ins.
You see why I feel like a dummy.

don't give up.
We'll get it.

P.S. In a reply to "GymMom" today (Nov. 25 - 1.42) Steve Silverwood
explained the basics. Perhaps his explanation is better understandable
than mine:
