Shared borders mess

Emilio

Hi all,

I am a dumb newbie (obviously) , no question, I am half
way thru "FP 2003 Inside Out" and I am very confused.

I am updating an old website by making a corporate
website with the wizard, so far so good.

Now that I added my logo to every page, I decided I would
like to get rid of the logo, except in the home page and
keep messing it up.

Good thing I keep making backups as I progress.

Can someone please help me?

(please no suggestion of dynamic template, can you
imagine how fast I would screw that up)

Thanks,
Emilio

You probably have the logo in a shared border (top)
- that means the border is shared on all pages it is applied to
- including all content in the shared border
The only way to not have shared content on the home page is to remove the shared border from that page - Format Shared Border
(selected page) and unselect the top shares border option
- that will also remove any other content you had in the shared border from the home page (like nav bars), so you will have to add
it back to the home page w/o using a shared border

Hey Emilo,

I remember those days! Then, someone told me about "shared borders." It was like a whole new day! I was trying to do the "frames" thing and had no idea what was going on. Anyway, actually, your need might be just what I found -- easy!
Shared borders is, you may nor may not already know, is a separate "page" or pages - top, left, right, and bottom. When one or more is turned on, the main page is all that changes when going to the next view. In your case, you need simply to tell FP to display the top border or not. In FP2002, it's under Format. There, for the home page, select "top" and "current page." For any other page view, do the same. If you check "all pages," that's what you get. You may find that if you have already told FP "all pages" then unchecking it will turn off home or index page as well. Deal with it following the choices given -- current or all pages. Add the other borders as you wish.

In the listing of folders instead of page, view the borders individually. Edit them there.

As your website grows, you will want more choices. I never use "all pages." This limits me. On some pages, I construct my own table border and put navigation bars in that format. I can copy/paste that to any other page as I wish. Or make a different one.

Now, go see my creation: www.circlehereford-customsilver.com or www.myscratchwebs.com

Hope this is what you wanted.
