Shared workbook and autofilters

Howe do autofilters in shared workbooks interact betwen users.
I've set up my first shared workbook to track some dynamic processes and one
user has reported that when I make a change to my autofilter settings she
sees her view change.

I assumed that the actual filtering was per user. If not how do we work
