Sharing of Normal.dot

B

Brians

Over the past several years our company has shared macros and autotext the
the use of a global normal.dot file that was stored on the network. And due
to the nature of our work one of the admin staff makes frequent changes to
the macros. All this worked great until we upgraded to Office 2003, seem now
that you can't share the normal. This has created a big problem for us in
that any time a change is made to the macros or autotext the updated normal
has to be copied to each computer.
I need a way to have a global normal that can sit in one location and be
accessed by all my users. Does anyone know a way for me to share this file
and get my users back on track.

Thanks in advance
Brian

Brian: This is a reoccurring question. Do a Google Groups search with
group *word* for "share macros across network" and you'll get several good
responses.

It has never been a good idea to share normal.dot. You can share AutoText
and macros easily using a different (shared) global template. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc. For more
on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and
locations of templates folders see
http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.
