Sharing toolbars and macros??

Hello. Is there an easy way to transfer my toolbars and macros from one
station to another???

macros and other settings are usually stored in templates. Unless you've
consciously put them elsewhere, they will be in normal.dot. Copy this file
to the new computer. Check Tools > Options > File Locations for where to put
it.

So, won't copying normal.dot to another station overwrite the one there?

Yes, which is why you don't want to do it. Copy the macros and toolbars
(using the Organizer) into another template and install or load that as a
global template on the other computer.

Thanks Suzanne. I'm still having a problem though in that when I try to
launch one of the macros, I get a message saying that Word cannot find the
macro or my security settings won't allow it. What might I be doing wrong?

Copying macros using the Organizer is somewhat tricky, I gather.
Conventional wisdom is to copy the macro first, then the shortcut or toolbar
button, then the macro again. I believe someone may have said that three
times is the charm!

Suzanne. I tried but still the same problem. I deleted all of the macros
and toolbars I had previously copied. Then copied the macros. All looks
great. Then I copied the toolbars. Then I deleted all of the previously
copied macros (because you can't overwrite the list). Then I copied the
macros again. Same issue.

Actually, I just noticed that, after all of this, the macros that are listed
via "Alt F8" are all from my Excel configuration. None of the macros are
from Word. ???????

If you copied the macros and toolbar to another template then you will
need to recreate the toolbar commands since Word is looking for the
macros in the previous location.

I'm not sure about your Excel macros displaying. Do you have an
embedded Excel object in the document?

Hi Darrell,

One other option is to save a document with your active macros as a template
or *.DOT file. Copy this file to the hard drive of your second computer.
Then, go to Tools > templates and add ins. Add your saved *.dot file. This
will bring your macros as well as toolbars. While not as integrated (you may
have to activate the add in each time you open Word), it does work a little
more smoothly.

Sharing or copying normal.dot is not a good idea. See
