jude,

If you are starting on the "Project Start Date" just go to Project-Project
Information and change the start date.

If you have set any task constraints on any of your activities, review each
one and decide if those constraints need to be changed or not.

To see which tasks have contraints, look for the calendar icon in the
indicator column.

i type in the new start date and hit ok but nothing changes. I did not have
project calculate my project. I put the dates in myself. Does this make a
difference?

Hi jude,

Pardon me for jumping in. If you have typed in all of the dates in project
and have not used predecessors and successors (link), then no, changing the
start date of the project as David recommended will not shift the tasks.
The purpose behind project is to calculate the start and finish dates for
the tasks based upon: project calendar, duration, predecessors and
successors. If you have typed in all of the dates, you have succeeded in
setting constraints on all of the tasks and do not have a "dynamic" schedule
driven by links.
You *may* be able to get all of your dates to change if you use the Adjust
Dates button on the Analysis toolbar. However, I would suggest you re-think
how you are using Project.

Mike Glen has an excellent series of tutorials about using Project
effectively at:

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

U becha! When you enter the dates, each task is "Constrained", meaning
it can't move in at least one direction in time, forward or backward,
unless you change it. This means your schedule is frozen in time.
You've figured out you can't change the start date and have much
effect. What's worse, if you make a task slip, only that one will move.
Your need to set your durations and links for each task, then let the
software schedule them in time. Only when absolutely necessary should
you set a Constraint by typing in a date. This might be like an outside
delivery of goods or services.
I recommend you do a Google search in this NG on "Links", "linking",
and "Schedule Continuity" and do some reading. An hour or so of
research will help a lot.
I hope this helps in your world.
