Show page number 1 on page 2

When I use Insert Page Number from the Insert Menu and uncheck Show On First
Page, there is no number on the first page (which is what I want) but the
number displayed on the second page is 2 and I want it to be 1.

How do I get it to show 1 on the second page?

This seemed to offer a simpler solution to having two masters, but it
doesn’t seem yet to fulfil its promise!

I am using 2003

Try the options at...Insert / Section.

I've experimented with those and still get 2. Do you have a specific tip for
working with the section break to achieve the result?

All I know is select the page you wish to
begin on...and go to...Insert / Section...

Check - Begin a section with this page

Tick - Start At - 1

If numbers remain on the earlier pages
you can just delete them.

View, clear two page spread.
Go to page 2, insert section, check Begin a section with this page, check show
headers & footers on the first page.....
Start at page 1. Okay out.
Insert, page numbers, select your preferences, check show page number on first
page. You will have to do this for the odd and even page.

I’m sorry to be a bit dense here.
I still get a number on the very first page of my publication. I guess I
will need to create a new master without a page number and apply it just to
that page.
