Showing critical path

Fredrik

I have read the discussion from 20-21 of April concerning critical path.

How does one do to get the critical path shown all the way, if some tasks are summary tasks with subtasks the red line is broken. The "Tracking Gant" is fine with tasks without subtasks or tasks within a summary task.

Hi,

If a task is hidden, then Project can't show the line. Show all tasks and
you should get a continuous line.

Hi
thanks for your answer

All tasks are shown, and all the tasks within the the summary task are red, but the summary task itself is not red, nor is the constraint from the summary ask to the next.

Hello Fredrik,
You have to create a specific symbol for the critical summary tasks :
Format / Bar Styles...
Show for : Summary, Critical
Hope this helps,

Fredrik,
Summary lines should NOT show up on the critical path because they are
not performance tasks, or at least should not be performance tasks.
Normally, (except in very specific circumstances), summary lines do not
have resources assigned and therefore there is no work performed on
them. That being the case the summary line is not part of the critical
path.

Summary lines should also NOT have predecessors or successors. Although
Project allows it, putting links on summary lines will cause more
problems (mostly unintended results) then it is worth.

Hope this helps.
John
