simple problems!! please help!!!

I haven't used project for a while and i was hoping someone could help me,
firstly im using project 2003, i cant seem to get it to start the tasks at
the start of each day it starts in the middle! Next, when i split the task to
allow time between work i cant get it to spil evenly, it always cuts it at
1.97 days or 2.43 days and i cant correct it after that. I also cant
remember how to put the task names next to each task bar? Lastly in some
instances i need to be able to end a task half way through a day and start
the next task in the second half of that day also, is that possible?? If
anyone can help me with any of those issues it would be greatly appreciated!

things to check:
1) Project / Project Information - Project start date & time (to view the
time choose tools / options / date format and ensure one with the time is
select
2) tools / change working time - start time of each "day"
3) check the assigned resources calendars
4) ensure that the tasks don't have constraints set - task information /
advanced tab - should be set to as soon as possible (if scheduling from a
start date)
5) if it's none of these display the levelling delay column (right mouse
click on duration, choose insert column, levelling delay) and ensure all
values set to zero - if they are you can hide this column


Next, when i split the task to

personally, i never use the silly split icon .. i go into task usage or
resource usage view and manual edit the hours as i want them

format / bar styles, click the TEXT tab and choose the name field

concerned as to why you would do this - if it's due to other tasks being
dependant on the first part of this task and then the rest of the task can
get completed then IMHO it's best to make two tasks with appropriate links
if it's due to resource availablity then this should be controlled by
changing the resource's calendar
if it's due to the fact that this task is not "allowed" to be done in the
morning then i would use a task calendar (available in all version post 98)
