Single Inbox (Exchange & POP Accounts)

Zeus

I receive work-related e.mails from 2 separate e.mail accounts/addresses - one is a POP account, the other an Exchange account.

Entourage displays these as 2 separate inboxes which really annoys me. Is there a way to presents these as one unified inbox (and sent, draft & trash boxes!) ala Apple mail?

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying Entourage 2008. More than I expected. :)

Yes, Use a Custom Mail View:

Search: All Messages

Match if any criteria are met:
Folder is Inbox account A
Folder is Inbox account B

Save as custom search.

See this page for help using custom views:

Thanks Diane - that's pretty straight forward and I can do it for the Sent, Draft, etc. mailboxes.

Given the volume of e.mails I get, I like to file them away into folders etc. If I set them up under "On My Computer" and drag an e.mail from my Exchange Inbox, it just copies the mail. I then need to delete the original from the Inbox (which presumably also deletes it from the Exchange server).

I guess I've been living in a POP world for too long! Is there a way to change this default behaviour? I don't want to have separate archived folders for my Exchange and POP accounts. I'd just like to merge them all locally.

I'll have to let one of the Exchange experts help with that, but there is a
script that might help. (currently broken under Leopard- update expected
soon)

AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 days (this time period can be modified) from
your Exchange account folders to archive folders within the "On My Computer"
folder tree.

Chris.

Try command-dragging instead of just dragging. This is the keyboard shortcut
to the 'move' command which accomplishes the same thing.

Thank you Barry & Diane!

A different approach that may be useful.

Can you perhaps invoke a Fetchmail daemon that will go, say, to the pop
account and retrieve everything from there, and have it move those items
into your IMAP server? You could set that up as a timed task (once an hour,
once every five minutes, or whenever) so that everything is cleared from the
POP server on a regular and frequent basis.

You would just then need to only collect your mail from the one, IMAP,
source.

This, I think, is a more elegant solution, as it addresses the problem at
its source for you.

You don't actually need to forward them to Entourage itself, but you can
forward Gmail to another account that Entourage uses.

Many people forward all of their accounts to Gmail for it's spam filtering.
It will not allow Entourage to download spam and you would need to go online
to see if any good email was caught.

You can set your Gmail account to either POP or IMAP. If you want them
downloaded to Entourage create a new POP account in Entourage and set up
your info. If you want them left on the server, create an IMAP account in
Entourage.

See this page for help setting up your account:
