Hi ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

It will theoretically take a million tasks, depending on memory.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Problem With MS Project Saving

hi Mike,

Thanks - was looking for a max number and couldnt find one.

And ill take a look at the website...

Has anyone actually worked with around 9000 tasks or more??Do you have any
feedback if so?

Jas:

Although there are exceptions, I think that any plan with more than 2000
task lines should be considered a candidate for sub-project restructuring.
Once you're in the range from 5k to 10k lines, your plan has to be very,
very well structured and ordered otherwise you'll spend more time scrolling
through it than managing it.<g> That's my rule of thumb, but YMMV, and so
will your save times.

The last time I encountered a client with a plan this large, >12,000 tasks,
the ultimate answer to their tracking woes was to skinny it down to
something more manageable. In this case, we opted to track the critical
path, which was well represented in less than 1500 lines. Sometimes *less*
is more!

Gary-Thanks for the info that could be a way of managing the project in
future, so far i have 15 major headings(rolled up summary tasks) with
indented tasks beneath so far there has been no problem with tasks, I was
more concerned with links between tasks moving them around in the project
with the number of tasks etc...ta...Jas

Moving tasks in a large plan is part of the scrolling pain I referred to in
my last message. It's particularly difficult with our new powerful machines
as there's not throttle on the scrolling speed. Make sure you turn off
autolinking in your plan.
