Slide numbering

I'm having trouble adding slide numbers and footers to Powerpoint. I go to
Insert, then Slide Number and Apply to All, with the Slide Number, Footer and
No Number on Title Slide boxes checked, but I never see any numbers or
footers.
What's the deal?

Click "View", "Master", "Slide Master" to make sure your template has the
actual placeholders for this information. If it does, click "View",
"Header/Footer", click the checkboxes for the stuff you want.

If the Slide Numbers STILL do not show up, it might be because you have
images on your slides that sit on top of your placeholders.
