Slow email viewing

My Outlook 2002 is suddenly VERY slow in responding when I try to move from one email item to another (about 15 sec or more). I've tried archiving old emails, but this doesn't seem to help
The app works fine in sending or receiving email, but is just slow in moving from one item to another. Any ideas of what to try?

Try disabling the integration with Instant Messenger in Tools | Options |
Other and see if that speeds things up.
