Slow starter

Windows XP Pro. Word 2002. This machine is about a year old. Word has worked
fine until a couple of weeks ago Word slowed down. When I click on Word the
Word splash screen comes up and sits there for a couple of minutes and then
Word opens up. I tried reinstalling it and nothing changed.
