Some controls on this presentation cannot be activated

My father had made a PowerPoint presentation which contains a Shockwave
animation. The animation works OK on his computer, but when I open the
presentation from a CD on my computer (both using Windows XP Home edition) I
get the following message:

"Some controls on this presentation cannot be activated. They may not be
registered on this machine."

The presentation then works OK except for the Shockwave animation, which
shows only a static picture. Similar problems occur on other computers.
Could anyone suggest what might be causing this, and whether there is
anything my father can do, when making the CDs, to avoid this? Or anything
I and other users who have the presentation on CD can do to make the
animation work?

Thanks for your reply Mary. Shockwave is installed OK on my computer, and I
get the same problem if I try to run the presentation when it is copied onto
my hard disk.

Many thanks for the reply.
How did your father embed the SWF file?

We downloaded a program, which I think we found through a link from
Flashgeek, which modified his PowerPoint program to add a menu option
'Insert Shockwave Flash object'. It seems to have been since then that the
problem started. (Previously we used 'Insert object' and typed the path,
and they worked then.) Have we ruined things by making that modification?

(Sorry about the changing names - not sure how 'Egbert' got there. I am the
same person!)

I'd probably start with visiting the Macromedia site and installing the
latest Flash player. Then I'd follow the link someone gave in one of their
answers to install the Shockwave player.

Hm. Insert|Object seems an odd way to insert a SWF. Then again, I'm just
assuming it's an SWF file he's inserting.

Anyway, I'm guessing the program was the SwiffPoint Player and you clicked a
Google ad from Flashgeek to get to it. You might see if following the
instrux instead at http://www.flashgeek.com/tutorials/ helps -- you'll want
#1 and #2.
