Sorting issue with customer report

I am trying to sort a "who does what" report by resource name (first sort)
and task start time (second sort). Additionally, I wanted to have a third
sort by task ID...is this the "ID" in the drop down selection?

When I choose these items in the sort tab my tasks that are listed for each
resource ARE NOT sorted in chronological order. WHY?? I have one person
with 6 tasks. Their tasks are not sorted in chronological time order. It
has the first task in the 4th row, 2nd task in the 5th row, 3rd task in 1st
row, 4th task in 6th row, 5th task in 3rd row, and 6th task in 2nd row.

Please help me out. I have to have this report done before the end of the
day to distribute to the resources so I can freeze my implementation plan.

Thank you,
Dave

Go to Project Sort> Sort By> Sort 1-Resource Name Sort 2-Start
The Task ID is set by MSP in the order you entered the new task.
If you prefer to force a second sort you can set up a numbering sequence
useing one of your test fields. In this case your second sort: Sort-Text "x"
You can insert any column by right mouse clicking and "Insert Column" (Text
1 for example and call it Item #. You can hide any column by clicking on the
column name and hitting the delete button on your key board. Thre data will
not be lost.
Good Luck

Hi Dave,

Yes, the "Who Does What" sort is a problem that has plagued many for awhile.

Here's a portion of a reply I posted back in September with a work around
that may or may not work for you:

The workaround that I use because of the problem with the Who Does What
report is to create a new table (I call it the Who Does What table) based
upon the Usage Table applied to the Resource Sheet. I add Assignment Units,
Assignment Delay, Start, and Finish to the existing Usage table. I then
drag the split far right to hide the timescaled portion of the Resource
Usage view and print the view. It then shows data similar to the Who Does
What report but the assignments are sorted correctly.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Catfish,

I prefer to have the custom report because of having to go in and resize
tables - etc. with getting the formatting set.

Can't this be done in the "who does what" report?

You can go to Reports>Custom and make a copy of the report you want and set
the sort in this new report.
Worst case would be to set up Filter, View & Table you like in a gant chart,
then export to Excel.

Hi Catfish & Dave,

I don't believe the first option "You can go to Reports>Custom and make a
copy of the report you want and set the sort in this new report." will work.
The Sort option that you see in the Who Does What Report definition dialog
box is the sort option for the *type* of report. The "Who does What" report
is a resource report and as such a "Start" field sort is sorting by the
resource's earliest start on assignments, not the start date of the
individual assignments. That being said, printing the left side of the
Resource Usage view (with the modifications I noted) does display the
assignments in the correct order.

Hope this is of help
Julie
