Sound files

I have ripped some tracks from an audio CD (formatted as mp3 and Window
Media Audio). When I insert a track via Insert/Movies_and_Sounds/Sound
from file, the track plays without a problem. However, when I attempt
to attach a sound file to a graphic by right-clicking it and using
Action Settings/Play sound/Other sound, Power Point insists that I use
only .wav files.

Is this standard? I would like to attach audio files to aesthectically
pleasing graphics rather than the generic "speaker" icon.
Thanks,
Stu B.

Yes, that is true in all versions of PowerPoint - - only WAV files can be
attached to objects. However, if it is only the speaker icon that is bothering
you, just drag it off the slide and it will not be displayed during your slide
show. Then you can use any music file format you want.

There is a work aroud to this issue. You can load your
sound files to the page and either drag the icon off
screen or under the Custom Animation - Effects Options -
Sound Setting tab select Hide Icon during slide show.

Okay now that you have the sound loaded create you an
image or graphic on the screen. Now go back to the
Custom Animation - Effects Options of your sound but this
time go to the timing tab. Look at the bottom and you
will notice a trigger option. Click the Start effect on
click of: option and then select the image that you put
on the screen. This will now act as if it is a button to
start the sound (mp3)

Hope this helps!
