[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]
Hello,
PowerPoint does not include the ability to embed (not link) multimedia
formats other than *.WAV audio files.
There are a variety of workarounds to make your presentations with linked
content more portable including:
* Pack and Go (PPT 2002 and earlier) and distribute resulting Prez0.ppz and
PNGSETUP.exe, or
* Package for CD in PowerPoint 2003 (copy to Folder, zip up folder and
distribute zip file)
* Saving presentation in MHTML format (single file web page)
* Converting you audio files in to *.WAV files and embedding them (check
the General tab of the Options dialog to adjust linking threshold for sound
files if necessary).
A very cool option in PowerPoint 97 is the Custom Soundtrack add-in. The
PowerPoint Custom Soundtrack Add-in allows you to add
electronically-generated background music to your slide shows. You can
install this add-in from the following folder on the Office 97 compact
disc:
<drive>:\ValuPack\MusicTrk
If you have installed this add-in with PowerPoint 97 and have then upgraded
to PPT 2000 or PPT 2002 you can continue to use the add-in by using the
instructions in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:
218513 PPT: SNDTRK: Cannot Install PowerPoint Custom Soundtrack Add-In

218525 PPT: SNDTRK: "PowerPoint couldn't open the Visual Basic for
Applications

Of course, If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that
the option to embed other kinds of multimedia or provide include linked
files (somehow) when using the Send command, should be added to PowerPoint,
don't forget to send your suggestion (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to
Microsoft at:
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp
As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.
IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
