SP2 Security Information Bar

C

cookoonest

I just installed SP2 and I am trying to get rid of the Information Bar that
says "To help protect your Security Internet Explorer has restricted
............." that comes up when I try to run Preview in Browser using
FP2003. It does not show up when I access the same webpage after downloading
it to the server.

I have followed the instructions to have this turned off using Tool|Internet
Options and "Information Bar Help" but it still does not turn it off in
"Preview in Browser".

Also, the option "Pop-up blocker settings" is greyed out when I go to
Tools|Pop-up blocker.

Can someone caste some light on this dilemma?

Thanks

["Microsoft did this to protect the lowest common denominator of users from
malevolent content delivered via traded CDs, DVDs, and other portable
media - or from files saved via the internet or e-mail to your local hard
drive."]

"Lowest Common Denominator of users"? - What an insult!! Smacks of Big
Brother to me: {}:)

Unfortunately the fixes they recommend might work for Dreamweaver but they
don't work for FP2003.

Thanks Murray

Sure they do. They are not fixes for your authoring system - they are fixes
for your BROWSER and its security settings.

I have tried applying all the recommendations suggested but no-go.

If the problem is in the Browser, and not in FP, it seems odd that I don't
have the problem when I use the same browser while accessing the same page
from the server. Maybe there is a difference in the browser accessing files
from my PC than from the server?(????)

I have gone over this again and I think the problem is that I cannot get to
"Popup Blocker Settings"(under Tools\Popup Blocker) as it is greyed out.

Do you know of a way to correct this?

were already made. The label "Allow active content to run in files on my

I was looking for some other reason(s) why this was still occuring.

I made the changes you suggested and showed in your attachment.

I also found a discussion of this situation posted at the following Forum:
(Bb2 post 10/6/04)

http://talkgraphics.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/8681906186/m/275104508/r/233106809

This post links to 2 MS pages that discuss problem further:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/security/productinfo/XPSP2/securebrowsing/locallockdown.aspx
http://msdn.microsoft.com/security/productinfo/XPSP2/securebrowsing/lockdown_devimp.aspx

The first link seems to suggest 2 changes to the registry to fix the
problem. (I think-I am not that technical). I went ahead and changed the
default values for iexplore.exe from "1" to "0" in my registry as is
suggested in the first article. The problem still did not go away though.
Maybe there is more that needs to be done but the articles were
over-my-head.

Thanks and appreciate your help.

Do you know of a way to correct this?

Maybe there is a difference in the browser accessing files from

Certainly there is. That's what the error message is about.

I have tried applying all the recommendations suggested but no-go.

If the problem is in the Browser, and not in FP, it seems odd that
I
don't
have the problem when I use the same browser while accessing the

from the server. Maybe there is a difference in the browser

It seems
Sure they do. They are not fixes for your authoring system -
they

["Microsoft did this to protect the lowest common denominator of

"Lowest Common Denominator of users"? - What an insult!!

Unfortunately the fixes they recommend might work for
Dreamweaver
but they don't work for FP2003.

I just installed SP2 and I am trying to get rid of the
Information
Bar that says "To help protect your Security Internet Explorer
has
restricted ............" that comes up when I try to run
Preview
in Browser using FP2003. It does not show up when I access the
same webpage after downloading it to the server.

I have followed the instructions to have this turned off using
Tool|Internet Options and "Information Bar Help" but it still
does not turn it off in "Preview in Browser".

Also, the option "Pop-up blocker settings" is greyed out when
I
go to Tools|Pop-up blocker.

Can someone caste some light on this dilemma?

I originally thought the problem was in FP since it only arose when I tried
to do "Preview In Browser" using Frontpage.

Thats why I posted here.

There is currently a similar post in microsoft.public.frontpage.client
("Explorer Information Bar Driving Me Nuts" - Posted 3/29 at 12:29PM).

Apparently other FP users are also running into this situation.

The problem is displaying scripting or popups in IE with SP2 from
pages on your hard disc - though this is inconvenient for FrontPage
users, it is not a FrontPage problem.

If you did your preview using FF or some other modern browser, you would not
see this problem. It's an IE issue, not a FP one.

He never told us what the message is in the information bar. This is
analogous to trying to troubleshoot based on "I see an error message when
I'm using my computer. What's wrong?"
