That's Greece for you. No broadband. The file saved to disk ok, but as I
said, won't install properly.

: :: I've just spent 5 hours downloading this sp3 and when I go to
:: install it, it keeps coming up with errors in the config.msi tmp
:: files. One or two I can ignore, but then it comes to a complete
:: standstill and I have to cancel the installation. Any ideas how I
:: can get the damn thing to update properly.
:
: 5 hours! Your computer must be as slow as mine!
:
: First, if you want to keep a working copy of the update, you should
: look for a computer magazine that has a CD attached to it, such as
: Microsoft Windows XP Magazine and find the update on that.
:
: Secondly, for some reason, whenever I have tried to save an update
: from the update site, it has never worked when I have tried to
: install it. I think they make it that way.
:
: If you just want to install it and get it working, then go back to the
: update website and this time, click on "Open" instead of "Save to
: disk". That should make it work--and take a lot less time!

I have done this from just a dial up modem--no broadband--and again,
I have been able to save it to disk from the download site but I could
never make it install properly. I think they make it that way. It works,
and is quicker, to do it as they instruct you to do it, and that is to
click
on "Open". I think there must be some reason why Microsoft gives
that instruction. Even though the files were saved to disk OK, you
can try it a hundred times and it still will not install properly.
