Spell and Grammar Check Grayed Out

Our WORD 2000 does not offer the Option of Spell Check and in Tools/Options
the tab is grayed out. I get no hits in the MS KB and have tried
reinstalling with no success and searching the Registry for "spell" with no
success. Any suggestions?
