Splitting Database

D

DW

Two main questions with one sub question in the second question.

First, I split a database, and if I try to open the front end while a user
is using a connected Data Access Page, it does not let me in. If I log in
during a time that no one is using the Data Access Page, I can get in and
after I'm in they can get in too, and the users of the Data Access Page can
have simultaneous use with me. What can I do so that I can get in the front
end at any time regardless of what activity is taking place with the Data
Access Page?

Second, how do I distibute copies of the front end? Do I simply copy the
front end file and give it to other front end users? If so, do the copies
automatically retain the UNC path to the back end if the new recepients of
the front end paste their front end any where they wish?

This sounds very much like a permissions problem. In that the DAP
users don't have the ability to create the LDB file. However once
it's been created then they can use it just fine.

Trouble is I don't know anything about DAPs so don't know what to
suggest to fix this. Do DAPs use a special network account for
permissions?

Tony,

You set an anonymous access to the folder housing the database so the engine
can reference it underneath the surface.

Either when users of the DAP open the page, or when the database is open, it
creates an ldb file. It's the sequence of events that is the problem. If I am
the first to open the database, it will create an ldb file and DAP users can
still access it. However, if a DAP user first prior to the database being
opened, the DAP user's activity creates an ldb and the mdb file will not open

Then that anonymous account needs file creating privileges.

Ok, so somehow the anonymous account the DAP uses is creating the ldb
with privileges set so no one else can update the ldb file.
