Glen

When I try republish assignments, I am getting the following error in my Project Spooler. I looked at the MS Knowledgebase and found an article about permissiona and check my permissions and they were what they were suppose to be

Here is the system error
Project Server Spooler Error (0x80004005

Thanks

Glen:

This is, indeed, an authentication issue. What happens when you choose to
retry in the spooler? What errors are you seeing the application log on the
Project Server box?

Actually you're less likely to see this working directly on the server.

I've tried doing the republish from a few different machines and all have the same error.

I really need to figure this out, my other two Projects republish just fine.

Also, maybe this has something to do with it, when doing the republish I am trying to take over as Manager of this project.

Please help !!

The error confirms an authentication problem. Can you open and save this
project? Do you have rights to view all the resources in the project?

When I do the republish from any machine, I log into that machine using my own domain account, and I am in the domain admins list.

My other two projects, although considerably smaller, republish just fine with no errors.

I am noticing that when I view the resource sheet, it get's to the 5th or 6th resource and then it locks-up. I open my Task Manager and I see that MS Project is not responding.

I get this same error in Project 2003 and Project Server, however it is not an authentication problem.

The error is related to (I believe) a duplicate record in the web assignments table. You can create this error in either of two ways:

1)
Create a project with a task.
Build a team that includes a resource (it can be you - I used myself in this example)
Assign yourself to the task
Save the project to the server, but do not publish it

Now go to your tasks and "Assign myself to an existing task".
Select the project and task that you just created
enter some time and update the task

Now, when you go back into MSP and try and publish the project, you will get the spooler error since you (the resource) have two assignments on the same task - the assignment you created in Project as the Project Manager and the assignment you created in tasks as the resource on the project.

2)
I can also cause this same error by hiding a task in my timesheet and then re-adding it (as above). This situation is even more problematic as the hidden task may have actuals in the project.

So here are my questions:

1) How does one get rid of these conflecting assignments so the project can again be published?
2) How do we keep these problems from re-occuring?

This is turning into a HUGE issue!

Thanks for posting this. Excellent investigative work! I sent in an inquiry
to check on the status of this issue.

You should be able to do one of two things: Either go into the Updates
page as the PM and reject the proposed assignment and then publish your
project OR delete the assignment in Project Pro and then accept the
assignment in the updates page.
