Static Master part 2

Hi,

I have previous asked the question re. taking a static 'snapshot' of a
master plan. This is so I can have a record of the progress of all the plans
without having to save 12 different plans.

It's been suggested that I remove the links (by double clicking each
inserted project, then unlinking in the Advanced Tab) and while this first
appeared to work I noticed the total % Complete changed dramatically (+15%).

Can someone please offer another suggestion and/or a reason why the % changed.

Thanks in advance

meljoy,
If by "total % Complete" you are referring to the Project Summary Line,
then yes it will change because the inserted subproject Summary Lines
are no longer treated as subtasks of the master but rather as normal
Summary Lines in a single file. And in all project plans, % Complete for
Summary Lines is calculated differently than for performance tasks.

My suggestion is to not look at the % Complete at the Project Summary
Line. The value shown is questionable at best. Depending on who you ask,
it may or may not accurately describe the overall completeness of any
given project. However, if you insist on believing the % Complete value
at the Project Summary Line is valid (or any Summary Line for that
matter), then before you unlink the subprojects, copy the % Complete
value to a spare text field and re-name that field as "% Complete".

Hope this helps.
