Changing and saving a master plan without saving inserted projects

Hi again,

Another one of those days where I cant seem to get my head around
things..

Anyway here's another problem that I have encountered.
I have this master plan which is comprised of 8 inserted projects. I am
trying to create a high level plan and I am minimising some of the tasks
and even deleting some. All works fine until I save the master plan and
it asks me if I want to save the individual projects. To this I say no
and this means that when I reopen the master plan, all my work has gone
and I am back to square one with a whole lot of tasks that I dont want.

Do I need to untick the link to project box in the Advanced tab? If so
that would mean that whenever one of the project gets updated that it
doesnt update my master plan and unfortunately this is not what I am
after as this would mean I would have to redo the work everytime I want
to check progress on the sub plans.

Hope you can help

Hello bexley,

Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. You can't both save changes
to the master after you've deleted tasks without updating the
subprojects to delete those tasks. If you are deleting tasks from
the master to remove them from the view, have you thought about
filtering to temporarily hide them?

If you want to be able to delete you'll need to create a static
master by unchecking the link to task checkbox and re-consolidate as
needed to get the latest information.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
