I've tried reading through the messages already on the board, but I'm sorry I
just don't understand what to do. I want a column on our report to use the
graphical indicators of red, yellow, green for watching if we are falling
behind.

I want to watch the tasks and if they are going to be 14 days late I want
red, if they are between 0 and 14 days yellow, and if they are complete or on
track to finish on time I want green.

I've tried numerous formulas and alway have ERROR coming up in the field.

Hi Nanc,

From your description, I assume you are trying to use a comparison of
[Finish] to [Baseline Finish]? If you have not saved a baseline that
could be the source of the error, but it is tough to tell what is
happening without some further information.

Please post what custom field you are using and your formulas and we'll
see if we can help you sort it all out.

Number1 when the finish variance was greater than 14. But I don't know how
to do days. I want to know if things are ontime, up to 2 weeks behind to
finish, or more than 2 weeks to finish

Hi Nanc,

Create the following formula in the Number1 field:

[Finish Variance]/480.

You need to divide the Finish Variance value by the number of minutes in
a day, so assuming your definition of a day is 8 hours, divide by 480.

When you create the formula in the Customize Fields dialog box, leave
the field to initially show you the data values to confirm that the
formula is working correctly. The field should now show you the number
of days late.

Then add the graphic indicator with your criteria:

Less than or equal to zero - color of your choice
Less than or equal to 10 - color of your choice
Greater than 10 - color of your choice.

I am trying a similar reporting column using the Text column.

I am trying to set up a graphical indicator column to reflect when a project
is behind by more than 5 days it is red, 0 or less than 0 is green and 1-4
days is yellow.

In the custom fields I inserted the formula projdatediff([baseline finish],
[finish])/450 we have a 7.5 hour work day.

I have the graphical indicators set up as:
first row "is greater than or equal to" 5 red flag
second row "is within " 1,4 yellow diamond
third row "is less or equal to" 0 green smiley

The problem I am having is for the tasks that are ahead of schedule, so
showing a negative number are not getting any type of indicator.

I would think that since I have the "is less or equal to" 0 green smiley
that I should get the indicator. I am getting if for the tasks with a 0.

JulieS: You have helped me in the past and really hoping you can sort
through this one also.

I've tried reading through the messages already on the
board,
but
I'm
sorry I
just don't understand what to do. I want a column on our
report
to
use the
graphical indicators of red, yellow, green for watching if
we
are
falling
behind.

I want to watch the tasks and if they are going to be 14
days
late
I
want
red, if they are between 0 and 14 days yellow, and if they
are
complete or on
track to finish on time I want green.

I've tried numerous formulas and alway have ERROR coming
up
in
the
field.

Anyone else with feedback is definitely welcome to provide help. thanks in
advance!

Jim,
Interesting. This one drove me nuts for a few minutes. "It can't be that
difficult, I thought".

Apparently you put your formula in a custom text field. And numerical
tests like "is less than", do not apply to text values. Try putting the
formula in a number field and then apply your graphical indicators.

Why don't you zip the file and send it to me by email. I'll take a

Yes the subtasks have been baselined. On the table the field for
finish
variance shows things like 5d and .5d and 3d, etc.

Hi Nanc,

I assume when you say the individual tasks come up with an error,
you
are saying that the formula creates an error.

If you add the Finish Variance field to the table, what is shown
in
the
finish variance for the subtasks? Have you baselined the
subtasks?

This worked good on the summary tasks. They now have the
indicator
coming
out. But the individual tasks still come up with error.
Custom attributes I say formula
Calculation for task and summary rows None

get
ERROR

It is better, thank for that. Can you help at the detail task
row?

:

Hi Nanc,

Create the following formula in the Number1 field:

[Finish Variance]/480.

You need to divide the Finish Variance value by the number of
minutes
in
a day, so assuming your definition of a day is 8 hours, divide
by
480.

When you create the formula in the Customize Fields dialog box,
leave
the field to initially show you the data values to confirm that
the
formula is working correctly. The field should now show you the
number
of days late.

Then add the graphic indicator with your criteria:

Less than or equal to zero - color of your choice
Less than or equal to 10 - color of your choice
Greater than 10 - color of your choice.

don't
know how
to do days. I want to know if things are ontime, up to 2

:

Hi Nanc,

From your description, I assume you are trying to use a
comparison
of
[Finish] to [Baseline Finish]? If you have not saved a
baseline
that
could be the source of the error, but it is tough to tell
what
is
happening without some further information.

Please post what custom field you are using and your
formulas
and
we'll

Jim,
Wow, my dog is gonna be real jealous :)

I'm a little surprised the graphic indicators setup doesn't warn you
like the filter setup does. WIth filters, if you try to use the
incorrect test with a given field an error message pops up.

Nonetheless, problem solved. You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.
