Storing Archive Folders

P

Pete

I have almost 1 Gig of data in my archive folders. I
would like to move the contents to a CD for permanent
storage and later review. How do I do this?

Just burn the file to a CD. Since it is more than 700MB you'll need to
compress the file by using WinZIP, WinRAR or the build-in compression in
Windows XP (rightclick-> send to-> Compressed (zipped) Folder). To view the
content again; extract the file to your harddisk and remove the Read Only
file property and in Outlook use File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

Or more simply, define a cut off date that will split the file in half (or
some other suitable fraction). Really old stuff in one and semi-old stuff
in another. Then burn each file to its own CD. Expanding a gigabyte of
data back to a HDD just to find one message seems a little extreme.

Not really. You'll need to copy it back to your harddisk anyway as you can't
open the data file from a read only medium.
