Stuck on Scientific format

Neal

When I put a number into a cell and move off of it it
displays as scientific if formatted to general. If
formatted to text it displays the number. I formatted to
a number it displays as 0. Uninstalling and reinstalling
office doesnt fix this......anyone have a solution

Hi Neal
The "general" number format will convert any number with more than 11 digits to the left of the decimal to scientific notation

General is exactly that, general. Excel decides how to display the number, not you

When you change the format to "number" does it actually change the value to zero

Also keep in mind that if a cell is formatted as text, when you change the format to number, the number in the cell is still text until you do something. (ie click in the cell and hit enter, or use paste_special with an operation

Good Luck
