Style change in Word97

I have created a simple template with margins and font set the way I
want them. I have created a style which I want to use with the
template. I cannot figure out how to set the style with the template.
As a result, I keep having to change the style everytime I add a new
page to a document using the template. And sometimes in the middle of
the page it reverts to another style. help?? TIA
