Subset Views ?

Is there a way to view a subset of tables in Visio 2003? I'd like a
few views that have tables that are directly related. Thanks.

For a database that has 50 tables there are maybe 5 that relate
directly in one area and 5 in another area. So if it was a car
dealership I would have a view that just showed the tables related to
Service or just the ones for Sales. So just display an ERD of selected
tables and how they relate.

Thanks

Do you mean more than one page in the visiomodel and each page display one
of your areas? You can insert a new page by right click on the pagename
under the drawing window and then select 'Add new page'.

I was looking for a way to have all the entities on one page and just
display subsets. This way I can have the entire db visible but
display just some entities if I want.

Now I know, you will draw all shapes in one diagramm and display
miscellaneous subsets of this shapes. You should look in help files for
'layers'. I don't apply this yet, but it sounds so.

Nope. Entities only go on the entities layer.

I would much prefer a way to do it like Enterprise Manager where I
could have multiple diagrams and have them all be updated as changes
are made to the db.

Ideas ?

I work with Visio for Enterprise Architects from Visual Studio .NET 2002.
There I can do "Reverse Engineering Physical Schemas to Logical Model",
"Generating a physical Database Schema" or "Updating Physical Schemas with
Logical Model Changes". As far as I know all these functions are only under
Visio for Enterprise Architects available.

I have that version too but it still doesn't EASILY allow me to have
multiple views.
Oh well.

After playing around for a bit with the same problem, the quick and
easy way to do it is to create another page, and just drag the tables
(from the tables and views list) you're interested in onto that page.

A table (and its relationships) can be displayed on as many pages as
required. If you need to remove a table or a relationship from a page,
just make sure you click NO when it asks to remove it from the
underlying model.

Took me ages to work that out! doh.

Chris.
