WinXP Pro
Cable Connection
Outlook 2003
I just upgraded to Office 2003 Student/Teacher Ed. In Outlook I am getting
an error message that "Symatec Fax Starter Edition cannot connect to my SMTP
outgoing server (0X80042109). "Symatec Fax Starter Edition" is listed as one
of my email accounts. In the fields for POP and SMTP is listed 127.0.0.1
Can I fax over a cable connection?
Do I need to correct somesetting here?
Should I keep this fax account? I previously faxed thru a phone line using a
scanner.
Thanks for any assistance

Check with Symantec to make sure that product is compatible with Outlook
2003.

Certainly incorrect, unless you have a proxy that sites between Outlook and
the server.

Certainly not.

You need to have a fax modem and an analog phone line to fax.
Should I keep this fax account?

I'd delete it. You can always add it back later.
I previously faxed thru a phone line using a scanner.

And you'll need to do that again.

Thanks Brian! You answered each of my questions. I'll delete Symatec Fax
Starter Edition and continue to use my current fax setup.

Symantec Fax Starter Edition was discontinued with Outlook 2000 IMO. You
can use the Windows 2000/XP Fax service to fax if you do not want to set up
the scanner.

However, as Brian said, all faxing must be done through an analog modem and
telephone line, unless you use an Internet Fax Service such as eFax.
