Sync status icons and menu choices messed up

I have a similar problem to one previously reported in this discussion group,
but still can not get around it.

The only option available to me under File / Sync is Work Offline.
Hovering over the sync status icon on the toolbar shows OneNote is connected
and synchronizing changes, but the status icon is grayed out.
And I no longer see sync status icons on the notebook tabs like I used to.

I have reset both the toolbar and the menu bar and nothing has changed.
Can anyone help!

The sync menu items and the toolbar button will only be enabled if you
have any remote notebooks opened (such as notebooks stored on a network
share, SharePoint server, or removable USB drives). You can check what
path is being used to open the notebook by hovering over the notebook icons.

Thanks, Ilya, these are remote notebooks on a thumbdrive, so I would expect
to see the status icons like I have in the past. Here's some more info that
may be relevant.

I recently started using the open source program TrueCrypt to encrypt the
folder on the thumbdrive that contains my OneNote notebooks. When I type in
the decryption key, TrueCrypt mounts the folder as a virtual drive. I can
get to my notebooks just fine, and they appear to be sync-ing okay (even if
the statu icons aren't visible). When I hover over the notebook name on the
tab, the correct location is shown (the virtual drive).

Could the lack of sync status icons on the notebook tabs (and the graying
out of the sync status icon in the toolbar) be because OneNote doesn't
realize it's sync-ing with a remote notebook, because the remote notebooks
are now on a virtual drive that appears to OneNote to be local rather than
remote?

If TrueCrypt is creating a new virtual drive, that could very well be
masking the fact that it's removable. Even then, though, OneNote should
work just fine. The one possible caveat is if you have multiple drives
that you use in this way: if you open some notebooks from one drive,
then replace it with the other and it is assigned the same drive letter,
OneNote might end up thinking that your notebooks were deleted and close
them. If that happens, just plug the other drive back in and re-open the
notebooks and you'll be good to go again.
